Imai Kira's art is always a blast to see, so getting a zine of her work (I have a copy of Frill) was an absolute given. I did pick up a copy of Ghosts Turn Milk Green vol 1 and 2; I ADORE the spooky shit
I love that! I've been a fan of Ally Burke for ages so that makes me so happy. Ooh I'm so jealous of your copy of Frill. Imai's illustrations are so stunning. It was totally worth all the import fees to get these zines lol
Absolutely! The zine community is big into support too. Old school zinesters are expected to nurture the new generation and zinesters are always expected to help each other out. When your zine is done I'd love to swap if you're up for it.
ooo, these recommendations are so fascinating! how did you even find berry's work? and I agree with you on kira's zine! Also, japanese stuff in general is so hard to get your darn hands on. If I see an artist in Japan publishes something, I try my best to go through all the hoops to get it (except when they release prints that print from those machines in konbinis >:C obvi we don't have those haha)
Thank you! Vanessa Berry and I both wrote Perzines in the late 90s so I am pretty sure we swapped though I may have found her through Factsheet5. Her 90s zine was called Laughter and the Sound of Teacups and it was one of my all-time favorites.
And I totally agree! Kira Imai works almost exclusively in Tokyo so it's really hard to get ahold of her stuff stateside though she does work with Gallery Nucleus every few years. I was so happy to get these zines and she has a bunch of riso prints I'm eyeing.

How are they all soooo beautiful! 👽
So many great zines this month it was hard to choose!
As someone who’s finishing their first zine right now I’m just staring in fascination 👽
Congratulations on almost being done with your first zine, that's so exciting! I'm cheering for you.
Thank you! The Substack community inspired me to try in the first place and you’re just proving the point of how supportive it is 💜

Yeah that would be fun I think! I’m in the editing phase now (adjusting the colors digitally) but I hope to be done very soon!
Not only are they beautiful but they are also very creative from the ideation standpoint. Like the riddle name really got me!
It took my a minute to realize that "I am a Camera" was spelled out as a pictogram on the cover. So clever!
I live for clever puns like this!
