I have been thinking about the zine community a lot lately, especially with the influx of new zinesters. Or, more specially, I have been thinking about the community aspect of the zine community, so I wrote this Note:
And a bunch of people liked it?! I’m viral! (72 likes, heck yeah.)
Being raised by a zinester myself, I’ve been around zines since I was a kid, so the importance as of zines as a community of nurturing and acceptance was there from day dot. With a lot of new zinesters finding the scene not through zine elders but social media, I have thought a lot about the important parts of our scene’s culture. In other words: what do we want to pass along to the new generation of zinesters?
Then I wrote the Note.
Then the Note became a zine.
Here it is and it’s free (PDF link is below the image):
I think it would be great for people stocking free zine libraries, doing zine workshops, zine fests, or teaching zines in the classroom. Not a zine about what a zine is because there are plenty of those, but a zine about the zine community itself.
Feel free to print it and distribute it as you see fit, link it to your zine LibGuide, use it in you classroom, whatever you like.
Truly, zines have no “rules” (we’re quite anti-rules as a lot), so this mini zine is more like “cool things about our zine community that I’d like to see continue into the future.” That’s not a very snappy title though, is it?
Anyway, I hope you like it … bye!
Printing and dropping in Little Free Libraries ✨
I love it! Can I add this to the zine library I work for? Would love to include it 😌
